Speaking in Tongues- written by Andrew Bovell

-directed by Kathryn Barnes and Angela Braby

Love, trust, betrayal and infidelity - couples tangle and unravel in the search for love and excitement. A woman goes missing and the suspect is reported by a fearful neighbour. But why is she alone that night and has a crime been committed? Why will one person never give up on the past and another discards it as meaningless? Is trust enough?

Speaking in Tongues is a contemporary, gritty Australian psychological drama that explores the inner fears and desires that drive people to act against their better judgement. Winner of the 1997 AWGIE Stage Award for best new play and adapted into the award winning film Lantana, it is a disturbing, stylised tale of human lies, weakness, love and manipulation.

Birthday Celebrations

December 6, 2020, our birthday celebration was such a fun day, with so many friends all gathered together to reminisce over 75 years of The Lind Theatre. It was really special having guests who were instrumental in what has been achieved and complimentary on what we are still doing to keep the theatre alive. What a fine afternoon we shared in the cool, with music and slideshows, cake cutting, the unveiling of plaques, speakers. Many thanks to Deputy Mayor Arts Portfolio @CrRickBaberoswki for joining us. Roll on another 75 years!

Audience Review

  • Slide title

"I am still thinking about the play and the clever portrayal of the fine balance between survival and staying within the boundaries of your principles. Fantastic acting, the presence of Kathleen, Scott's wife, and Amundsen, his competitor, like Scott's subconscious on the stage, was completely enthralling. Amundsen grew on me as a pragmatic but caring guide. The death of Evans, after becoming completely confused, showed incredible talent by the actors to look real. Wow, I will remember this play for the rest of my life."
